Been really distracted building my social network for cyclists meandmybicycle.co.uk. I bang on enough about the importance of niche social nets so I thought I may as well build one. If you are a cyclist check it out. But if you love bikes this much perhaps you’d better not.
Loads of interesting web/TV stories this week. This piece in the Guardian about Nuts TV wound me up. It just seems so puffed up. I would have rather read something about Dave, which seems to be doing extremely well for a completely new offering and is genuinely clever. It will continue to be part of this story methinks, especially as it’s getting in late 20 something males…and their girlfriends, I hear anecdotally. Also winding me up is the news that Friends Reunited is to ditch its subsription mechanism. I am not wound up by the news that they may do that, but more the fact that (a) it has taken so long and (b) as is hinted in Jemima’s copy, that the site has been allowed to wither on the vine. I refer you to the disclaimer on the site. That’s my view.
News yesterday of the launch of Clipstar.com, a “democratic global talent contest” that mixes social networking and talent scouting from music and entertainment companies also left me scratching my head. Whether it will result in some genuine star finding or just more YouTube style novelties remains to be seen. Either way, I wish we had done it on ITV.com. Hmmm….I think I may set myself up as an internet talent agent.
